Upper Peninsula Cemetery records

About

Duane and Jacquelyn Hargis spent many years documenting individual burial plots in cemeteries in Luce, Schoolcraft, Mackinac, Marquette, and Alger Counties in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Their records include indexes by surname and location, transcriptions of tombstones, maps of the cemeteries, and sometimes photos. Each county has an introductory page and an index of all of the cemeteries in that county. Mackinac and Marquette Counties are incomplete. For these two counties, there are detailed spreadsheets explaining which cemeteries were fully transcribed as well as a master index.

You can search across all spreadsheets using the "Search This Collection" box on this page, or you can browse at the county or cemetery level. Each county and cemetery also has an introductory document explaining contextual information about the survey project and giving a guide to any symbols and abbreviations used in the indices for that cemetery.
