January 16, 1892 Saturday "Why is it that wrecks and runaways occur so frequently on this end of the road, lately," is a question often heard on the streets. An old railroader says the company will have trouble on the Summit grade until they replace the steel rails with iron. Others say that many eastern roads have heavier grades than that between here and the Summit, laid with steel rail, and they don't have any runaways. One thing is certain, there were much heavier trains taken over the road in the early days, when the track was not in as good condition as it is now, and no accidents occurred. Explain it who can - we give it up.
