Upper Peninsula Civilian Conservation Corps collection
About
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a New Deal program that employed young men to do forest management and conservation work around the country. It lasted from 1933 to 1942. There were many CCC camps in the Upper Peninsula. This collection includes materials from Camps Gogebic, Pori (Mass City, Michigan), Raco, Newberry, Germfask, Paulding (Watersmeet, Michigan), and Cusino (Shingleton, Michigan). Camp Cusino built the Cusino State Game Refuge, which is now Seney National Wildlife Refuge. This collection is an artificial collection of photographs, maps, and documents from Civilian Conservation Corps camps in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as well as secondary literature about the camps. Most of the materials were grouped into two binders. The original binder structure was maintained for the online collection. There are also a few individual photographs and maps.
