Description / Synopsis
Photograph showing some of the many vessels delayed by a valve failure in the Weitzel Lock in August 1890. In the four days it took to repair the valve, over 260 ships had gathered above and below the locks. This incident supported the case for building another lock at the Sault. The four schooners in the center are "Negaunee" of Cleveland, "Grace Holland" of Republic, "Emma C. Hutchinson" of Cleveland, and "William McGregor" of Detroit. |
