Northern Michigan University Yearbooks
About
This collection contains yearbooks from Northern Michigan University for 1910, 1920-1932, 1937-1942, 1947, and 1949-1980. All extant yearbooks have been digitized; it is unknown whether yearbooks were produced for some years or whether they were produced but not preserved. In the 1910s and 1920s, the student newspaper often published the equivalent of a yearbook at the end of the school year. These newspaper "yearbooks" can be found in the Quill and Northern News collections.
The yearbooks include photographs of students, faculty, and campus organizations and events. The yearbooks of Northern Michigan University (formerly Northern State Normal School, Northern State Teacher's College, Northern Michigan College of Education, and Northern Michigan College) were variously named Olive and Gold, the Northern Normal News Yearbook issue, the Annual, Kawbawgam, Senior Book, the Campuseer, Polaris, Northerner, and the Peninsulan.
The physical collection at the Central Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan University Archives also includes bulletins listing course offerings and department requirements and "General Information Books." The collection also includes a few scattered yearbooks from Iron Mountain High School, Ishpeming High School, and John D. Pierce High School (a teacher training school located in Marquette, Michigan).
