New aspect of railroad situation

November 27, 1886 A new aspect has been put on the railroad situation in this peninsula by the announced plans of the syndicate which has purchased the DM and M and the MH and O roads, and proposes at once extending the latter west to a connection with the Northern Pacific. Instead of making a connection with the Canadian system at Sault Ste. Marie, the Michigan Central will be the line used to obtain a through line to the eastern seaboard, and provision for crossing the straits will be made. This is a staggering blow at the future of Sault Ste. Marie, and correspondingly betters the prospects of St. Ignace. It makes no material difference to Marquette however which only needs the connections east and west which the contemplation of this line will give it, and cares not how they are obtained.
